What if I am unhappy with the tutor that my child has, what should I do?"You should contact the Coordinator of the Tutoring for Success Program.

If I have more than one child, can I get a different tutor for each of my other children?"Yes. If you desire to have different tutors. Each child is assigned their very own tutor.

How long is the tutoring session?Tutors meet with their students once a week for 1 hour. However, some tutors are willing to meet for more than an hour if needed. The details have to be worked out with the parent and tutor.

What if the time that I have already scheduled with the tutor starts to be a time that is not working any longer, what should I do?"Contact the tutor that your child is currently working with and try to arrange another time that works for both parties.

How long has your Tutoring for Success Program been in existence?In April 2020 we launched our virtual tutoring in partnership with Learntobe.org.

What subjects do the tutors work on?Tutors work on fundamental reading and math skills.

Are there any other things the tutors help with?Yes. They can help with study skills, note taking and homework.

Does my child have to be a Foster child to be able to receive free tutoring through your Tutor for Success Program?No. Your child does not have to be a Foster Child. We help foster, adopted, at-risk or any child in need.

Is there a charge for the Tutoring Program?No. Our Tutoring Program is free to all children however, we appreciate your willingness to donate any amount to help offset the cost.

What age does my child have to be to get help through your program?We offer help for children in grades K-12 and Post High School.

What is the Princess for a Day Event?It’s a day event that is free for foster, adopted, and at-risk children. It is free for foster, adopted and children living in a foster or adoptive home. This event goes way beyond Princess Pampering.

How can someone be a part of this production?They can be a part by volunteering as a Lead Princess, Fairy Godmother, Prince Charming, Entertainer or a donor.

My teenager is interested in participating in the Princess for A Day Event, but will she be required to dress up in the Princess style dress?"We have Prom style dresses for Teenagers as well.

What if I have a transgender child who identifies as a female, can my child participate as well?"Yes. All we ask is that we be informed so that we can make necessary arrangements if needed.

How many children participate in your annual events?The numbers vary each year from 175 and up. However, each year, we have seen growth in the numbers.

What types of items do you accept?We accept new and gently used Princess dresses, Princess jewelry, and bedazzled slippers.

What is the Boys to Men Event?It is an annual day event for boys ages 4-12 and young men ages 13-21. This event is an opportunity to experience exposure to knowledge about teaching moments and life lessons for the young men and the younger boys attend the Down 7 UP 8 Incorporated Superhero Academy where they learn how to be superheroes at home, school, in the community and around the world.

What is the “Teach Me How To Series”?Our Teach Me How To Series help to provide life-changing information and experiences that enforce the core values of Responsibility, Respect, Determination and Resilience.

Can I volunteer anytime for one of the events or as a Nanny Manny Brigade?All Volunteers must go through an orientation, so it is best to fill out the online form first and someone from the Volunteer Department will contact you.

What is the minimum age for volunteering?It depends on the event. Volunteers should be 18 years or older. Some of our events are great opportunities for young people ages 12-17 but must be accompanied by a parent or chaperone. Please check our volunteer page for more information and descriptions of volunteer positions.

What is the Nanny Manny Brigade?The Nanny/Manny Brigade is a group of volunteers who are willing to be a positive influence on children that are coming into Cobb County DFCS custody.

What do the Nannies and Mannies do?They are volunteers who provide assistance with foster children in a positive, caring environment for children who have just been brought into State Custody.

How can you become a Nanny or Manny?Fill out the Volunteer form on our website and you will be contacted.

Are there other things that the Nanny/Manny Brigade do?They support the Cobb County DFCS Staff and the Cob County Foster Parents during intake, court proceedings, and training activities of foster parents.

What are some of the ways I can help the Nanny/Manny Brigade?You can provide snacks and drink boxes for the children while they are in the DFCS office. You can also do items drive for new and gently used clothing.

What are the requirements to become a Nanny/Manny?The State requirements are that you be a male or female 18 years or older. A background check and drug screen are also required. Experience is a plus but not required. A Nanny/Manny can volunteer for as many hours or days that you are available.

How does your Mentoring Program work?Each teen/tween will be assigned their very own mentor.

How is the Mentoring Program set up?Mentors will meet with their mentees once a week virtually.

How does the process work?The Mentors and Mentees will make connections virtually and get to know each other.

What is the purpose of the Mentoring Program?Help with life skills, educational goals and career plans.

Who are the children you serve in the Holiday Hearts Program?We provide Christmas gifts for needy children in the community. The past two years we have provided gifts for children in the Cobb County Family Preservation Program. However, we will provide gifts for any children in need no matter the county or program.

Can I claim my donations on my taxes?Yes, we are a 501( c )3 Organization and all donations are tax deductible.

Do you have any enrichment programs?Yes. Some of our Enrichment Programs such as our Mentor and Tutor Programs are to better contribute to the academic advancement, social and life skills.

How many children are in the Foster Care System in Georgia?Each year there are over 15,000 children that are brought into the foster care just in the State of Georgia. Even still, there are many other children who suffer trauma who are never brought into foster care.

What can be done to help end this trauma of abuse and neglect and aid in the healing process?Through our Programs, we hope to change the future for many children who have suffered from trauma, abuse and neglect.
